ARTIST PROFILE

I was extremely fortunate to spend the majority of my early life in St Ives, Cornwall, England, in an area renowned for its artists, at the Old Newlyn School of painting and St Ives School of painting. Dame Barbara Hepworth, Sir Bernard Leach, Alfred Wallis, Stanhope Forbes to name but a few.

St Ives has a wonderful 'light quality' and continues to inspire and attract artists the world over to visit and paint.

I was fortunate to have been born and develop as a young person to have a very strong artistic ability, both for model building and sketching/drawing, then later through my art teacher's encouragement, progressing into painting. In fact unbeknown to me, he used one of my early paintings as an example to set standards for educational qualifications.

On leaving school I was not encouraged by my parents to follow my dream of attending Art School, as such I was employed as an apprentice as a carpenter and joiner, therefore learning a trade. After working as a joiner for some years I progressed into the construction industry, which surprisingly, as it happens allowed me to further exploit my creative and artistic side.

I currently work full time in building design, but with a desire to make the move to work toward working only with my own creations and paintings, coming full circle somewhat from where I left off many years ago.

I am currently working towards creating a varied sequence of paintings thus expanding my abilities and creativeness, from seascapes, horses and animals, dance and movement, and many more, to which I hope you will very much enjoy.
